Kokoroko
- Sunday
Kokoroko means “be strong” in the language of the Urhobo people from southern Nigeria, and their track Abusey Junction is the perfect embodiment of that spirit. Led by the talented trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, this London-based collective brings together eight exceptional musicians. As a multi-instrumental octet, Kokoroko carves out their place in the jazz scene, blending it with afrobeat and hip-hop influences, while celebrating their Afro-Caribbean, West African, and East African heritage. In just four years, they’ve become a cornerstone of the jazz revival, effortlessly merging modernity and timelessness.
